How to Use Hypnosis for Anxiety Attacks

Article by Lastingchangehypnosis.ca

It is not easy coping with anxiety. Releasing anxiety is actually easier than is it may seem. Here is five steps patients go through to let go of anxiety with hypnosis, on spot.

When you feel like the world is closing in on you every single day you may want to try using hypnosis for anxiety attacks. It can be a horrible life to try to live with anxiety attacks and every single day stress that is just not normal. When an anxiety attack strikes it will go after your rational mind, but with hypnosis you can work on your sub conscious mind and learn to calm yourself before the attack.

Hypnosis will not work for everybody, but is has been proven to work for nearly 2 out of every 3 people. This is a very high success rate and as long as you can trust a therapist or a self hypnosis program you can find the control you have been searching for over your attacks.

Here are some of the steps to expect while using hypnosis for anxiety attacks.

5 Steps to Expect During Hypnosis for Anxiety Attacks

Whether you use a professional therapist or you decide to use a self hypnosis program all of these five steps will be included.

1. Find a Comfortable SpotIf you are at the office of a therapist they will have a couch you can use to get into a comfortable position. Those using a home program need to find a place that is quiet and comfortable. You don’t want to be so comfortable that you actually fall asleep, but you do want to be comfortable. After you are comfortable you will start to relax every part of your body from the top of your head to your toes.

2. Begin your JourneyWhen you are trying to use hypnosis for anxiety attacks you will be able to find a deep calm and with a specific trigger you can break out of this trance like state whenever you decide. You will begin by picturing a place you find to be very relaxing, a happy place of sorts. If you are using a professional they will guide you through this part of your journey. You will descend slowly into this happy place of yours as the relaxation gets deeper and deeper. If you want to experience the highest level of success with a home program you may want to make sure you get a very positive script from a professional therapist. This script will work on your sub conscious and with a professional you will be listening to the sound of their voice.

3. Counting DownAs you get into your peaceful place many successful hypnosis programs will have you counting down 10 steps. This could be a spiral staircase or just a regular staircase moving you from a very calm and relaxing place to your happy place. This needs to be a very slow process taking you slowly from one step to another until you are in a completely relaxed state.

4. TriggerAt this point the program you are using or your therapist will walk you through creating a trigger. This trigger will allow your mind to go to this peaceful place whenever you need to. If you are doing this on your own the trigger may be on the CD or audio file you are working with. Most of the time the trigger is as simple as putting your hand over your heart or pinching a fold of your skin.

5. Coming out of HypnosisWhen it is time for you to come out of the hypnotic state the therapist will guide you out slowly and will help you to come out properly. If you are using a home program you will reemerge with a five step count and slowly go from being hypnotized to being fully conscious again. This is a very important part of the process and should be handled with care.

How Long with Hypnosis for Anxiety Attacks take to Work?

You can feel much calmer and stress free after your first session, but in order to change your sub conscious and teach your mind to be relieved from the anxiety it will take about 28 days. This is about how long it takes to create a new habit and if you are going to do this with a self hypnosis program you will need to use it daily until you reach this point.

With an actual therapist it may take a series of sessions over a few months, but this is a small price to pay if you want to get rid of your actual anxiety attacks. Using hypnosis will help you gain control over your stress and anxiety. If you use hypnosis for anxiety attacks you can get back to living a peaceful and normal life.

Hypnosis Course

If you appreciate the dedication and expertise that goes into making a successful career out of hypnosis, perhaps you are interested in taking a hypnosis course yourself. This area of learning is rapidly growing as science and medical research exposes more and more benefits to hypnotherapy.

There are some important factors to consider when looking for the proper course to teach you hypnosis. How much class time will you be required to complete? Are you able to see a live demonstration? Will certification in the field be available after completion?

You will want to make sure the teachers are credible and have reliable references. The school you choose should be upfront about all the fees involved, and should offer information on refunds, guarantees, and job placement. Most specialty training courses do not have the ability to offer financial assistance.

If you are unable to pay for hypnosis training, you can take out a personal loan, borrow money from family and friends, or see if a work/school trade could be established.

Do not expect an outside party to finance your new profession.

The responsibility of payment resides with the person taking on the educational program. If all looks good, and money is not an issue, you are ready to sign up.

A good school of hypnosis will teach you things about the mind itself, not just how to manipulate people to your every whim. Both the conscious mind and the subconscious mind need to be understood to complete a credible course.
Understanding which people are susceptible to hypnosis is a key topic which should be thoroughly covered. The varieties of hypnosis, and the indications for each should be outline in your coursework. It is very important, too, that students are taught the dangers of hypnosis.

It is not appropriate, nor professional for a practicing hypnotist to be unprepared during an emergency. Proper skills and a calm demeanor will prove to clients that you can be trusted even if something unpredictable happens.

If you wish to ascribe to the values of the hypnotist profession, certification is generally fast and uncomplicated. Online courses allow students to interact through websites and still allow certification afterward.

Home courses, though not ending in certification, can be a stepping stone into the profession. Classes at colleges and institutes of higher learning are usually very reputable. Though determined by the course curriculum, demand and duration of learning; prices for hypnotism courses range from hundreds to thousands of dollars.

Hypnotism is no different from any other profession. If you chose to take on a course in this area of learning, be sure to maintain your references.

Reputation is the most important marketing tool a hypnotist, or anyone in the customer service realm, has. The right course will help you on your way to a successful career.

With some research and patience, you can select an area of expertise that will allow you to open up new gateways for yourself and others. Hypnosis is a very rewarding career if the hypnotist is motivated and ethical.

Hypnosis: Learn Conversational Hypnosis

To properly study hypnosis, learn outside of film fantasy! Certified instructors are available at all levels.

One can learn at an academic institute, on-line, through books, or with a private instructor. It’s recommended that all serious study be with the support and supervision of a certified instructor.

Learning hypnosis will depend on the goal of the student. If it is self-improvement, a very basic method of self-hypnosis may be sufficient. Such methods may consist of relatively simple training on learning to use written or audio hypnosis scripts which induce a trance state.

In these cases the student is also the subject. At the other end of the spectrum, if the goal is to work as a therapist, one studies the theory and practice of hypnotism and often pursues this as part of a larger study of psychology, medicine, and neurology or neurobiology.

Here, extensive training is required, often supplemented by ethical training to prevent abuse of the techniques.

In the range between lies everything from hypnotherapy to stage hypnotism to hypnotic game-playing.

Generally, however, the practitioner intends to act on another subject and therefore must learn techniques to influence and induce suggestibility in the subject. A degree of basic psychology as well as public speaking is therefore required. The ability to induce trust and confidence in the subject is the key.

In terms of conservational hypnosis, there are largely two schools or paths, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), and Ericksonian hypnosis. NLP uses language to implant favorable behavioral traits in place of former unacceptable or counterproductive ones.

It claims to be modeled on Ericksonian hypnosis, a form of hypnosis making intense use of language and gesture, attributed to Dr. Milton Erickson. Erickson’s descendants generally insist that NLP is too formalized and menu- driven, not directly responsive enough to the subject. However both schools follow similar basic methods.

The practitioner in all cases must learn to induce the hypnotic state. In modern professional hypnotherapy, this can be achieved by using a standardized induction scale (the Stanford Hypnotic Susceptibility Scale), implant suggestions which may be acted on immediately or post-hypnotically, and terminate the hypnotic state.

In its basic state this can be achieved with relatively simple instruction and the Internet is a source of many such training sites. For any serious hypnotherapy, advanced training is required.

Induction often takes the form of eye-fixation but can be achieved through verbal influence and body language, which is most often the case in conversational hypnosis. The implanting of suggestions, the more difficult task, is primarily a verbal technique reinforced by body language, gesture, and touch.

Since it is important to establish a connection with the subject and gain access to information from the subject, any successful hypnotist must have some rudimentary knowledge of psychology. To properly achieve certain goals of the session, such as reduction of pain or changes in physiology, medical knowledge is often essential. Like any proper therapy, hypnotherapy, once removed from simple parlor games, requires extensive knowledge of all factors that may affect a patient/subject.

Hypnosis Recordings Vs. The Real Thing

Article by Barrie St John

I’m often asked the question “Are self hypnosis recordings really as effective as hypnotherapy with a real live person?” My answer is yes, absolutely.

Certainly, there are significant differences to be found when comparing self hypnosis CDs or downloads to one on one therapy, but they are just that, differences. What one individual considers a benefit may be seen as a drawback to the next person. It really comes down to each person’s natural makeup, which determines what works for them.

For instance, in the case of live one to one hypnotherapy, a session can be concentrated on a particular problem, which may be a priority to you at a given moment, especially if you’re easily hypnotized. With recorded self hypnosis sessions, you do not have the benefit of focalized subject matter. There is no doubt that for specific problems, particular deep rooted problems, live one to one hypnotherapy is the best option.

On the other hand, to someone else, successful hypnotherapy may be dependant on the need to hear the message repeatedly. The law of concentrated attention and the power of suggestion in hypnosis are proven and very real. In this case, a recorded self hypnosis session is really the best option. You have complete control over when and how often to hear the recording. With live hypnotherapy, you do not have the benefit of repeated play, or the convenience of selective timing.

There is nothing preventing you from trying combined therapy, wherein you see a hypnotherapist in person, and also benefit from self hypnosis recordings in your own time. There is no system to conform to; it’s really whatever works for each individual person. Each of us has to answer this for ourselves.

After several face to face hypnotherapy sessions, you may want to try a CD or a download, and see how it works for you. On the other hand, you may start with self hypnosis recordings, and after experiencing some degree of success, you may wish to have one or more face to face sessions.

From a cost standpoint, it’s certainly worth trying self hypnosis recordings first. It’s far more economical than face to face, and if successful, you can save a lot of time and money by directing your own therapy. I always give my clients one of my own self hypnosis CDs to use in between therapy sessions, so that they get the best of both worlds.

There is also the added advantage that by repeated listening of a recording you’ll have experienced the hypnotic state many times, which means you’ll no what to expect from hypnosis in general. Some people find it hard to enter a state of creative relaxation on the first few attempts. Since you’ll have experienced this many times from listening to a self hypnosis recording, it could save you both time and money should you wish to visit a hypnotherapist for live one to one sessions.

I’ve heard of a few hypnotherapists who question the effectiveness of self hypnosis recordings and I often get asked the question “do recorded hypnosis sessions actually work?” I say yes they do, without question. It’s like anything else; it may not work for everyone, but for those who are willing to listen regularly, it can be extremely successful. Hypnosis is about suggestion, the more you hear something, the more it penetrates. This is precisely why recorded self hypnosis sessions are so effective. Don’t let anyone tell you differently.

TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL HYPNOSIS

Article by Tony Robinson

If you find your life in disarray, you are living what society calls a “dysfunctional” life. This term simply means that things are not working as they should, which is something determined by you and your conscious mind. However, dysfunctions are not always viewed by the subconscious mind. For instance, if you were doing things you do not want to do such as smoking, overeating, being abusive, and so on, you would probably agree those are dysfunctional things.

With self-hypnosis, you can remove the dysfunction from your life, so you can stop smoking, overeating, being abusive, etc. Self-hypnosis can help you become more patient while improving yourself and your actions. The key is to believe that self-hypnosis can benefit your life but first, you have to identify the dysfunction in your life so it can be addressed. Although sometimes hard for people to do, self-hypnosis can work if you get to the real source of the problem.

With this, you would learn how to find both symptoms and the problem. For instance, if you are a smoker, the problem is not the cigarettes but your desire to smoke them. Remember, you cannot confuse action with cause. In other words, the desire to smoke results in buying cigarettes, carrying them around, putting them in your mouth, lighting one, and inhaling. If you deal with one or all of these symptoms, regardless of how successful the self-hypnosis suggestions are, you will not get past the dysfunction. This means the craving to smoke will remain because the underlying source of the problem of why you are craving the cigarette is not yet addressed.

Now, let us say that you have a problem with overeating. Your desire to eat and overeat is the source of the weight problem but the goal with self-hypnosis, you identify the reason you have the desire and then change it. Once you do that, the overeating problem will stop. It could be that the underlying problem has to do with stress of a job, recent divorce, sibling rivalry, being picked on at school, or any number of reasons. However, the dysfunction of the situation is what must be determined before self-hypnosis can work.

No matter the goal, the same ideology applies. Anything you want to overcome, biting your nails, swearing, being shy, etc, they all require overt behavior on your end. Keep in mind that passive dysfunction involves the absence of something, meaning you have some type of mental block. If you are struggling with passive dysfunction, then subconscious constructs are in the way of learning. Your goal with self-hypnosis is again, to uncover the existence of each dysfunction. Once you know what these dysfunctions are, you can then formulate suggestions that will work to eliminate them.

One way to determine the existence of any type of dysfunction is through ideomotor questioning. With this, you will be able to formulate effective suggestions so the subconscious mind signs off the suggestions. The process involves who, where, when, what, and why. As far as who, you would ask questions to find out if there are other people associated with the problem. For the where, is would be associated with location that could be the source of the problem. In other words, were you in a location that triggers your nervousness, nail biting, smoking, overeating, and so on?

For the when, you want to identify the time of your life when the problem first started. If possible, determine the exact age or date, which will provide you with tremendous insight. Then you have the what. For this, you need to find out what specifically sets off the dysfunctional behavior. For instance, were you taunted by someone as a small child, did your parents yell at you, were you embarrassed at some point. All of these questions will help you find the crux of the problem. Finally, there is the why, which may help you understand why the behavior in the first place.

Once you have gone through this exercise looking for the keys to the dysfunctional behavior, you can use self-hypnosis to get past it. Again, with hypnotic suggestions being made the right way, you can begin to take control of the dysfunctional areas of your life, finding that you feel better and stronger about yourself. Hypnosis in any form is not an overnight fix but with practice and patience, you can overcome many dysfunctional aspects of your life for a brand new beginning.
