What is a rational (but non-critical) way to think about my past mistakes?

Question by Lilith: What is a rational (but non-critical) way to think about my past mistakes?
I am borderline and bipolar and my social mistakes are too many to go into. I remember them all and they constantly come into my head in my daily life.
For instance: One of the neighbors had a baby girl. She was out on the corner where I live and I was admiring the baby. The topic came up as to who she looked like and I said “Well, she doesn’t have your nose.” (The mother’s nose was thin and slightly arched.) After I said it I realized how horrible it sounded, but it was too late.
I have many more, some more crazy than that. I have the mentality of a 9 year old although my IQ tests higher than average.
These incidents haunt me constantly. All my stupidities make me cringe every minute of every day.

I would like to try a Cognitive Behavioral approach and replace the cringing and be able to step back and let it go.
The problem is that I don’t have something I can say to myself that is rational that would allow me to dismiss these thoughts.
Just to forgive myself is not enough. I need a replacement thought that I can use as a sort of mantra.
I have considered hypnosis, but don’t have the money right now.

Can you give me a fresh way to stop the shame and embarrassment?

Here’s something you can say to yourself. No day but today. I have it tattooed on myself, due to once being in a similar mindset. It has helped my significantly. To think more about controlling yourself now, as opposed to what you wish you hadn’t done, will work wonders. You can’t change the past, so live without regrets.

Find Out About The Power Of Meditation

Meditation – Healing Powers, Benefits, And How To Get Started

There are many forms of meditation and, although it has its origins in the Eastern cultures, the West is quickly learning the benefits of this relaxing practice. A lot of people think of meditation as some guy sitting on a pillow, legs crossed, eyes closed, humming. However, meditation can be done while sitting on a chair, lying down, sitting at your desk, or just about anywhere. While the many different forms of meditation are as diverse as their types, there is one thing that they all have in common: they focus on calming and quietening a chaotic, busy mind. With as chaotic as our lives today can get, no wonder why more and more are finding the health benefits of meditation.

The goal of meditation is not to end or remove the stimulation. It is more a training of the mind to direct focus and concentration to one element. This single element may be a single sound, a single word or thought, a single image or even the person’s own breathing. This is designed to bring calm and peace to the mind by making it focus so that stress, worry and depression are pushed outside of the mind. The mind does not have room to dwell on these things if the calm and peace is successfully brought to the forefront of the consciousness, in the present moment.

There are basically two types or styles of meditation. All of the techniques, both Eastern and Western, can be grouped into one or the other. The first of these styles of meditation is concentrative. This means that the attention is focused on the breath, an image or a sound such as a mantra to still the mind and heighten awareness and carity. Certain types of music can do this.

Concentrative meditation is probably the type of meditation that is familiar to most people. The person sits quietly and focuses their attention on the breath, known as “conscious breathing.” This type of meditation is very good for relieving anxiety, stress and distraction because it causes the person to focus and relax.

To perform conscious breathing, sit in a chair or on a pillow on the floor. Close your eyes and breath in deeply through your mouth while saying to yourself, “I am breathing in.” When you exhale through your nose (or mouth), say to yourself, “I am breathing out.” Picture positivity being breathed in with each breath you take and negativity being expelled each time you exhale. Absorb yourself in the act of breathing in and out, think of nothing else.

The other type of meditation is mindfulness meditation. This type of meditation involves raising your awareness of all the sensations, feelings, images, thoughts, sounds and smells that you encounter each day. However, you do not dwell on them or become involved in thinking about them. The person simply sits quietly and observes the activity of the mind without being drawn into reacting to it or becoming involved in negative reactions to it such as depression or worry. Through this exploration, the person gains a clearer, calmer state of mind that is non-reactive as opposed to bogged down in worry and depression.

Benefits of Meditation:

There are numerous physical and psychological benefits to meditation. As the body rests, the heart rate lowers, as does the metabolic rate and stress is dramatically decreased. Many negative physical and physiological reactions related to stress are decreased or eradicated altogether. Concentration is increased and memory is improved. Additionally, anxiety, depression, moodiness and irritability are decreased while feelings of vitality, happiness, rejuvenation and emotional stability are improved.

The Unvarnished Truth About Hypnotherapy And Motivation

Article by Remo Sit

If you need motivation for any aspect of your life, hypnotherapy may be the way to achieve it. Admittedly, hypnotherapy is a field riddled with controversy, but if you’ve already tried everything without success, why shouldn’t you take a chance on it?

The Truth about Hypnosis Although hypnosis is occasionally used by practitioners in the field of science and medicine, its effects – and its existence even – are still questioned. The British Society of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, however, has a fairly good explanation for the theory.

According to the said organization, hypnosis occurs when a person is relaxed to the extent that his attention can be directed and limited to the suggestions being made by the therapist.

Bearing that in mind, if those suggestions were focused on motivation then the person under hypnosis might find it easier to achieve motivation because from that point forward, his unconscious will work on his goals whether he likes it or not and whether he’s aware of it or not.

How Hypnotherapy Works Hypnotherapy, in various ways, can be considered as a type of psychotherapy. Hypnotherapy commences when a patient is induced into a state of hypnosis. When a person is hypnotized, he isn’t unconscious but he isn’t fully conscious either. Rather, his subconscious is awakened and his awareness is enhanced. More to the point, his awareness is programmable, and that’s when hypnotherapy comes to play.

If, for instance, you have certain fears you wish to be extinguished, a hypnotherapist will work with your subconscious to find the source of fears and the solution for it. The same goes for therapy. A hypnotherapist will work with your subconscious to give you whatever you need in order to motivate yourself to achieve your goals.

What You Should Know about Hypnotherapy and Motivation Hypnotherapy cannot work for everyone, even if your goal is to simply make a person more motivated. It is imperative that any misconception about hypnotherapy be rectified in order for the therapy to work.

All kinds of hypnosis work. This is patently untrue. There are different ways for a hypnotherapist to put a patient under hypnosis. Consequently, the effectiveness of the method will depend on the patient’s personality as well as the nature of his problem and the required solution.

Sometimes, a patient may respond more when the hypnotherapist is offering certain rewards when the desired action is performed. In other cases, a patient may prefer to simply hear words of encouragement.

Not everyone can be hypnotized. Surprisingly enough, everyone actually can be hypnotized but the level of which their subconscious is awakened varies. Several factors could be the reason behind this. For one thing, the wrong choice of environment or setting may make it more difficult for a person to become and stay hypnotized. Naturally, the amount of experience and degree of expertise of the hypnotherapist is also important.

Hypnotherapy has something to do with the occult. Again, this is untrue. REM or Rapid Eye Movement is a process that helps you sleep and hypnotherapy simply and deliberately utilizes the same technique to put you under hypnosis. It may not be an exact science but neither does it have anything to do with the occult.

Ultimately, the only way for you to find out whether hypnotherapy can give you the motivation you need is to try it out for yourself. When you do, you probably won’t regret it.

How to Teach Yours Kids About Money

Article by DJ Britton

Among the growing calls for better financial literacy programs for kids, it’s important to consider the key elements in developing a prosperity consciousness as well as the mechanics of how to calculate interest or what constitutes good credit or bad.

It is very important for teenagers to be prepared for the complex and occasionally predatory world of easy credit and the pressures of mass marketing, yet financial literacy can and should start with younger children. Financial literacy programs will eventually become part of mainstream education but parents have a crucial role to play.

Brain research has revealed that children between the ages of 2-9 are predominantly in a slow moving Theta or Beta brain states. This is the same state as adults enter during hypnosis or meditation. Whilst between these ages, children are literally being imprinted with the values and beliefs that they may well hold on to for the rest of their lives.

This is even more apparent when observing a child watching TV. They can completely ‘zone out’ and be oblivious to anything around them. In such a suggestible state what are they absorbing? Is it any wonder when they nag you incessantly for the latest toy, sweet or video game which they have see in the commercials?

As a child did you grow up hearing statements like, “Money doesn’t grow on trees” or “Money is the root of all evil”? If so, statements such as these are likely to be hardwired into your core beliefs and it is these beliefs which affect your attitude, your actions and ultimately your results.

Therefore in addition to introducing your children to ideas of saving, budgeting or where money comes from, spare a thought to consider the longer term implications of your words and actions.

Surveys have found for example, that a majority of people keep their bills in the kitchen, which is the most frequently used room in the house. Kids will pick up on the negative association with bills as they see you sorting through piles of unwanted paper.

They will also detect any stress or negative feelings about money from conversations bemoaning the price of groceries or the depressed housing market. Clearly you need not go around putting on an act or a show for your children, but in the same way as many parents want to protect their children from bad language or profanities; surely they need the same protection from influences which could damage their financial futures?

Try and maintain a positive attitude and approach to influencing your children about money. You could for example encourage the spend, share and save approach, where any allowance, gifts or earnings are divided into three areas, one to spend, one to save and one to share. This approach gives a child responsibility for saving their own money and teaches the consequences of spending versus saving or sharing.

As they grow older the saving could be based in an interest bearing account, with some sort of treat or reward being associated with a trip to the bank to make a deposit. Imagine how your attitude to money would be different if as a child you were rewarded every time to saved some money.

DJ Britton is an author, speaker and expert in financial education. His Financial Fairy Tales series of books make learning about money serious fun by presenting ideas and principles around money and business through enchanting fairy stories which educate as well as entertain

talking to parents about psilocybin mushrooms?

Question by Collin J: talking to parents about psilocybin mushrooms?
recently ive told my mom that i have done psilocybin mushrooms, obviously she doesnt like it cuz its classified as a drug but she isnt like pissed im not in trouble or anything. but i want a way to explain to her that it is not an escape for me and never has been, if anything im trapped with problems of the world and use all the power i can to collect my thoughts and make it all come together with a real solution, ive never felt like i escape my problems by doing them.. its more like i face them head on and try and deal with them.

thats the first problem, second one is i try and explain why i like to do it, ( a bunch of shiza from older trips about my mind wrapping itself around the webs and strings of the universe only to find that there will always be a new answer to the same questions because everything constantly changes and everything only connects together for a fraction of a second and it all makes sense before one component in life changes and everything gets thrown out of whack ) lots of philosophical even some spiritual existence and such. and her simple answer is just U CAN ACHIEVE THAT THROUGH MEDITATION, yes u can make it to some form of state through meditation but come on if u have done mushrooms- meditation hales in comparison.

she says she doesnt know what could be next for me, heroin and such- i tried explaining to her that heroin and a psychedelic are nothing alike.. and not only that but i am so far from any wanting to do any sort of hardcore drug, haha she is the one with oxy cotton and xanax and muscle relaxers haha. but thats besides the point, i feel like my arguments are very valid but she always finds a way to fight at my from two angles, i block her off with one thing and then she comes around back with another thing that i have to fight off almost to the point of contradicting the last thing i said to protect my grounds. hahaha I KNOW ITS A LOT SORRY!!! just give me all ur input, LONG ANSWERS APPRECIATED !!!

Answer by dave
Getting tripped out of your skull is NOT facing your problems, however much you may be deluding yourself that it is.

The fact is, your Mom’s correct. Some parents would just call the cops and let them deal with you, sounds like you’re lucky enough to have a Mom who doesn’t want you thrown in jail.

So, be nice to her and stop being a pain in the @££, you’re way luckier than you realize.
